Friends of Jan Howard,
You may have heard that Jan lost everything in the Camp Fire that swept through her home in Paradise, California. In the chaos of the emergency mandatory evacuation of the city Jan was able to leave with only a few articles of clothing and her pets. To everyone's relief she, Joe-B and the rest of her companion clan made it out safely and are staying with family. Jan is busy now with the efforts of dealing with the aftermath and the bureaucracy of insurance companies and FEMA, all while taking care of herself and her beloved pets as best she can.
Jan recently sent a note and shared her current challenges:
------------------------
"Since all the clothes I got out with were 3 t-shirts, a pair of jeans, sweat pants, and one pair of shoes I had to do a little shopping. Chico is packed with all the refugees and firefighters. Walmart parking lot and the field next to it are set up as a tent city. At least they brought in porta potties and portable showers. But is still makes a mess when you're trying to get in the store.
The only thing, other than a few clothes, I need to replace ASAP are the parrot cages. If you look at the fire picture, on the right side you can a see a warped out parrot cage in the drive way. Their travel cages are too small for them to live in for as long as this is going to take (6 mos to a year).
As soon as they let us back in I get to sift the debris. Some things will survive a fire. I'm hoping to find my silverware, coins, stuff like that.
All the insurance companies are set up in a vacant field not far from Walmart. With all the people needing services it is hurry up and wait (2 hours). I decided to file I didn't want to sit out in the cold and smoke."
------------------------
Everyone who worked with Jan knew the pleasure of being in her company. Her sense of humor made the best of any situation and even in light of this exceptional devastation of her home and life Jan recently responded to a friend asking how she was doing, "Well, at least I won't have any spring cleaning to do this year!"
Let's do everything we can to help Jan. Friends will be collecting clothes and and other items for her personal and pet care. In lieu of care packages we are also setting up this GoFundMe campaign for anybody who would like to donate online to Jan to help with her recovery. Every little bit will go towards getting our friend back on her feet.
Please share this page with everyone you know who may want to contribute!
Thank you.
