Every year abandoned pets and their offspring flood the region where I live and work, a result of poor spay-neuter, humanity's inhumanity and often downright cruelty. Permitting the animals to suffer for the sins of our human peers is not an option. Our unofficial small group of animal lovers,Friends of SHAPE and Chievres Strays, works with shelters and rescue groups to spay, neuter, vaccinate, socialize when necessary, and adopt out these animals, mostly cats but also sometimes dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and the like. Most of the time we pay for this care out of our own limited funds.
Last year between five of us, we spent at least two thousand euros saving more than 50 cats and maybe 20 dogs. We are well on our way to breaking that record this year.
This has been the most devastating season for kitten and cat abandons we have ever seen. One shelter took in 22 abandoned kittens over the course of less than 48 hours. This season so far we saved and adopted out two adult cats who had been abandoned by people who moved, a deaf adult cat, a mamma cat and her kittens (mamma cat remains up for adoption,) and we have nursed back to health a kitten who was likely either hit by or thrown from a car. Numerous other unlucky souls are still waiting to be adopted or are not quite ready. Today our little group of rescuers is busily socializing six kittens and two cats to prepare them for adoption.
Won't you help us save these lives by making a donation of whatever you can? We thank you so much for partnering with us!

This is Pip, in his foster home. He’s now a happy forever fur kid!
