On February 8, 2025, Ruth, a 17-year-old Maricopa girl was traveling home to pet her new bunny on SR 238 when, without warning, she was hit head on by an out-of-control, inebriated driver, traveling at a criminal rate of speed upwards of 100mph (the speed inside an F-1 tornado). This driver has been charged with multiple felonies to include Aggravated Assault and Aggravated DUI. The impact of this crash came very close to killing her, almost cutting her in half and causing multiple traumatic injuries that she will live with or risk dying from for the rest of her life. She has spent months in the hospital fighting for her life and has endured 19 surgeries and counting. Upon recovering from her 20th Surgery at the end of October 2025, Phoenix Children's Hospital would like for Ruth to continue her recovery through an intensive outpatient program in Boston at Harvard MC/Boston Children's Hospital. This 30–60-day program is essential to ensure Ruth has the best chance at recovering to the point where she might have some hope at continuing in her path to adulthood. Ruth's family has already put tens of thousands of dollars into Ruth's medical care, but it has left them with nothing to continue her fight. The trip would require the family to pay for a portion out of pocket (since insurance does not cover it 100%), travel by vehicle to Boston, and rent a short-term accessible home next to the hospital for the duration of the treatment.
*Any additional funds not utilized for Ruth's trip to Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard will be utilized to cover Ruth's overwhelming, ongoing medical expenses.
