To Friends of Laurie and Roger Garrett and the friends of friends, who find their way here to this story.

Some of you may know, but most of you do not. Our beloved Laurie Garrett has been diagnosed with an incurable and fatal brain cancer. Laurie did not want a big fuss made about her cancer journey, that she has now been going through for almost 2 years.

That's just the kind of lady Laurie is.  Humble, kind, generous, loving; all just a few of the words that come to mind when we think of her. As many of you know cancer is ugly and the cost to fight it is astronomical.  I have asked Roger to share a brief description of their battle with cancer thus far.

"It was a sunny spring day afternoon. Laurie was helping me with yard work raking leaves, when her right arm started hurting. She thought maybe she had pulled a muscle. Over the next few days, her elbow began to swell. So, she went to our family doctor. The P.A. took one look and said "you've got breast cancer." And just like that, Laurie was in trouble. No other symptoms, no family history. The love of my life, our children's mother, our grandchildren's "Lala" began the ordeal of surgeries and chemo. A year and half later she rang the victory bell at the cancer clinic. Breast cancer in remission. Then the headaches and blurry vision started. May 18th last year she woke up in a lot of pain, like her head was splitting open, and I rushed her to the Emergency Room. The Neurosurgeon said, " You've got brain Cancer." Too many lesions to operate, and difficult to treat with chemo. That began a new journey, much harder than before, and she has endured it all, even full brain radiation. Now, she receives spinal fluid injections that are as painful as it sounds. We know how precious "life" is; we love her so very much, and we fight on.”

Fight is the right word, for so many things in the Garrett Family’s life right now. Everything is a struggle. Though she fights hard every day, the battle is tough. Cancer is relentless.

The expenses have piled up, all savings depleted, the time has come to help this family. Laurie needs significant financial assistance to cover medical expenses that insurance does not cover, home healthcare costs, the medication costs and numerous other cancer related costs. Cancer is expensive. All money collected will go toward the care of Laurie as she continues to fight.

We will keep you updated. We appreciate your love and support. We thank you for your prayers. Please keep praying.
