For those of you who know Linda, you are well aware how committed she is to staying as healthy and independent as possible. Linda has been a fighter and determined from birth (3 month premature, weighing 2 pounds and Cerebral Palsy diagnosis) to set and achieve personal goals. She swam competitively for several years and earned numerous medals/awards and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
Unfortunately, in 2013 Linda had a signigicant fall that caused disc damage in her spine. Subsequently, she was in the TBRHSC and then in St Joseph’s Care Group for few months of intensive rehabilitation. The only equipment that proved effective in gaining strength and progress was the ‘Nustep’ recumbent cross trainer.
The ‘Nustep’ trainer helps to strengthen muscles around joints, build bone strength, increase range of motion, improve flexibility, and more. It also is a very safe piece of equipment used by those with limitations from disabilities. Previous to the pandemic Linda could access the machine at the Canada Games Complex and went regularly to maintain her strength. Since Linda is unable to safely exercise to keep her legs strong, walking has become increasingly more challenging and she is spending more and more time in her wheelchair.
The ability to walk is so incredibly important to Linda, her family and her quality of life. The only safe and effective option for Linda to strengthen her legs and to walk is having regularly access to a ‘Nustep’ trainer. Although the cost of the Nustep is high, any small amount of donation would be incredible helpful and appreciated. How awesome would it be if all Linda’s friends can help to get her strong and walking again!
