FRIENDS OF KIM
Your donation will be used to help offset the growing expenses involved with Kim’s longtime battle. It will also serve as a great vehicle for sharing your support in lieu of flowers, chocolates, food, (and maybe even a house cleaner) etc.
Kim’s illness began during her senior year in high school and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at that time. In 1991 after much blood work and testing, Kim was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). PSC is a rare disease which is found in the liver. PSC causes the bile ducts in the liver that protects the body from toxins to narrow and thins the walls to where the liver can no longer protect the body and exposes it to those toxins, risking major infections and eventually liver failure. PSC damages the hepatic, cystic, and common bile ducts which carry bile out of the liver.
In 2000 Kim had her colon removed and had j-pouch surgery. In 2007,16 years after her diagnosis, she was listed for a liver transplant. In July of 2008, while waiting for her transplant, she was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer; therefore, removed from the transplant list. Kim had surgery and went into liver failure. In September of 2007, after Kim battled her infections she was able to return to the liver transplant list as a recipient. She received a liver transplant followed by chemo and four emergency surgeries. Kim and her family had high hopes and faith that she was starting to overcome her disease, but in March of 2011 her PSC returned. In October of 2015 she was once again placed on the transplant list at NYU. On March 11, 2017, six years later Kim finally received the best gift ever; a new liver!
Kim loves living at the shore, enjoys her time at the beach and in her pool during summers. She also shares her home and decorations for every season celebrating each holiday with her family. Kim is also an active member of her community always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She has been a devoted wife to Brian for past 35 years, and the most caring and loving mother to three amazing sons, Ian, Kieran, & Connor who love and adore their mom more than anything. Kim is also a daughter, sister, aunt, and dear friend who loves her family and friends more than anything.
There is no cure for this disease--a liver transplant is the only treatment. Over the past 6 months, Kim’s illness and condition has progressed rapidly. Kim and her family are overwhelmed with the accumulated medical expenses; assistance to overcome this obstacle with monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. Every single donation goes a long way towards funds for the numerous medical expenses, medications, hospital stays, doctor bills, travel expenses, and wages not covered by the insurance company
Your donation will be used to help offset the growing expenses involved with Kim’s longtime battle. It will also serve as a great vehicle for sharing your support in lieu of flowers, chocolates, food, etc.
Please continue to pray for her and her family; any resources that can be contributed and provided will help tremendously. With sincere gratitude and appreciation - thank you and please share with others.
