Family and friends are lending emotional and financial support to 13-year-old Oxnard resident Malcolm Duke Cortez Herrera who was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday late afternoon; Christmas Day (12/25/2022) at 4:40 pm while riding his bicycle near Sierra Linda Elementary School in north Oxnard, California.

The car which was being driven at high speeds in a residential area, hit Malcolm, catapulting him into the air and thrusting him to the ground.  The driver did not stop, and left Malcolm lying motionless in the street.  His cousins who had been bike riding with Malcolm ran home to tell his mother Cindy and other family members about the accident.

Malcolm was rushed to Ventura County Medical Trauma Center hospital with injuries that included bruised lungs, several lacerations, a concussion, and other trauma.  He is remains hospitalized and has begun physical therapy. He’s in a lot of pain and gradually recovering from this traumatic event with his mother Cindy right by his side, thankful to God that her son is still alive.

I know Cindy and her family, and I wanted to help out by creating a GoFundMe account on behalf of Malcolm and his mom Cindy, who is a single mom. “I’ve known Cindy for more than 6 years; she’s a hardworking mom who loves her two boys.  Cindy is a generous person and quick to help anyone in need.  Would you please consider joining me in donating to help her in this time of need?”

Money raised through this GoFundMe account will help offset the costs of Malcolm’s medical bills, and other related expenses to overcome this horrible life changing event.  The numerous physical and emotional injuries Malcom, and his family will endure related to this horrific incident will exceed $10,000, and Cindy is a single mom; so, any amount you could give will be extremely appreciated.
With support from family and friends, and generous people like yourself, it is our hope that Malcolm heals quickly.

We just want him to get better soon.  Oxnard Police Department are asking the public for any new information to share in the case or ask anyone that may have seen the accident to contact them.
