Hawk was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a genetic disorder that causes many fluid-filled cysts to grow in his kidneys. Over the years these PKD cysts have changed the shape of his kidneys making them much larger in size. PKD also causes several other complications such as high blood pressure, cysts in the liver and medical conditions with blood vessels in the brain and heart.
Although PKD cannot be prevented, by making lifestyle and diet changes, Hawk was able to delay damage to his kidneys. In early 2018, his kidney health started deteriorating. He was put on kidney transplant list this year and is scheduled to undergo kidney transplant on December 17th, 2019.
There are going to be several pre and post-surgery expenses including his stay in Seattle. Being the diligent planner Hawk is, he has put into place safety nets to offset some of the financial burden that comes with his surgery. However, the expense of any surgery, especially an organ transplant, is enormous.
Hawk has always been there to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. Now it is our time to step up and rally behind him. We are asking for your support and donations to help cover expenses that he will incur over and above what his medical insurance and savings might cover including palliative care, lodging, and time away from work.
We wish Hawk a successful surgery and speedy recovery and thank you for your support!
