Dear Family and Friends,
We are extremely excited to share with you a cause that we’ve been supporting--It’s a children’s book about the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)!
While there are some children's books about the Coronavirus, this book particularly addresses those children who are underprivileged and live with limited resources and usually in cramped housing. The concept of quarantine, being able to social distance and virtual learning are very different for these kids.
We truly feel that very often, when we as a global community are facing calamity, children who face struggles and challenges are frequently forgotten in the process. We are sure that there are books about COVID, but not many that reflect the lives of children in such circumstances.

We truly feel that very often, when we as a global community are facing calamity, children who face struggles and challenges are frequently forgotten in the process. We are sure that there are books about COVID, but not many that reflect the lives of children in such circumstances.
“Duma Says” reflects their lives, and does so in a beautiful, colorful way! It reminds children not only of the importance of being safe during this pandemic, but also how to cope, and gives them a ray of light during these dark times. This book is an attempt to help children implement the same principle relative to their own means and surroundings.
“Duma Says”, gives children a reason to smile.
The story behind “Duma Says” INSPIRED us to help further the cause. As a child, there is nothing more exciting than being able to relate to the books we read and especially those that uplift our spirits!
We've decided to put that inspiration into ACTION!
Today we are asking YOU to join us on this journey to get these books in the hands of their rightful owners, FRIENDS of DUMA who are in similar situations!
Proceeds raised by this fundraiser will go to the following:
1. Distribution of “Duma Says: Come Play with Us” Collectors Edition, (includes all three books in one) to children who are in similar situations in our neighborhoods through local Mutual Aid networks who are involved in providing relief to families in need.
2. To the Open Air School for children with special needs.
( which is also the Alma Matter of the our author Nathi Ngubane)
*A little about the Author and why we chose Open Air School:
Nathi, who grew up in Durban but now lives in Protea Glen, Soweto, was born with microphthalmia. “This is an eye abnormality that arises before birth. It puts a strain on my seeing eye, giving it visual impairment,” he says. But “I was fortunate enough to have supportive and loving parents who did their best to make me comfortable”, particularly when he was teased by his classmates and misunderstood by teachers.
Ngubane’s parents moved him to the Open Air School in Durban for children with particular educational needs. “At Open Air School, I felt like I was home. I was finally in an environment where teachers understood my needs,” he says.

Dedicated to all the siblings that have helped each other get through the restrictions of the pandemic.

Dedicated to friendships- Friends are sometimes life’s biggest support systems, and stick around to help make lemonade out of all of the lemons thrown our way. Duma and friends believe in doing all they can to provide a safe and productive environment for their community, even in the midst of a pandemic.
Bhubesi's Love- $25
Dedicated to our most loyal companions, pets know how to show unconditional love and affection.
