As many of you already know, our friend and co-worker Duc Tran, was trimming a tree when he fell from height to the ground landing directly on his lumbar spine. Duc suffered an unstable burst fracture of L-1, putting his spinal cord at risk. He will need two large operations to repair and stabilize the fractured vertebra. He is currently in Trauma ICU at Lawnwood Regional.
Unfortunately, in addition to large medical bills, Duc will not be able to return to full duty for at least 5-6 weeks and he will have no income during this time. Duc is the sole breadwinner for his family. His youngest daughter is 10 and is at home.
We are setting up this page to ask everyone to pitch in as much as they can to try and alleviate as much of this burden as possible so that he can focus instead on recovering. Please be as generous as possible! He has a long and painful road ahead. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
Also keep in mind that Steward Healthcare allows employees to donate PTO hours to sick co-workers to keep a paycheck coming. If you have extra PTO time or can afford to donate a few hours to him, please let Stephanie Tonti know and she will help coordinate with HR.
Thank you!
UPDATE: Duc underwent his first surgery from the posterior approach on Tuesday night. That went well. Yeaterday he underwent the second surgery from an anterior approach. He was in the OR for eight hours. There was an inadvertent diaphragmatic injury. He is in the ICU now for a few days. Fortunately he is neurologically intact. Please continue to pray for his recovery. Thank you everyone who has helped raise money to support him!
