Friends for Jerry Poynter

The friends of Jerry Poynter are graciously and humbly reaching out to our network and the caring community of Cochrane to help our friend in need.

Jerry has fallen terribly ill. What seemed to start out as a pulled back and debilitating pain has landed him in the ICU in the hospital, where his body is fighting multiple infections, largely along his spine, that appear to be a form of meningitis or a very serious staph infection. 

Much of this appears to be a result of undiagnosed diabetes.

While Jerry (Uncle Jer, Jer Bear, Poppa Jerry) was giving the shirt off his back to everyone who crossed his path, he neglected to take care of number one. 

Jerry means so much to so many of us. He is the best friend a guy or gal can have.

He’s the first to roll up his sleeves and help anyone in need or to celebrate joys, milestones and accomplishments with his large, diverse group of friends and his devoted kids, Braedon and Carly and their mother Sue - who has been very supportive and by Jerry’s side. 

Friends cherish Jerry for his infectious smile, ability to look at the bright side of life and his constant care and affection for his circle. He is the glue that holds us together and we are banding together to give back to the man who has always been there for us. 

We are so grateful to our friend Joe for taking him to the hospital when he did, as any further delays could have meant we would be telling a very different story ... 

As his family and friends pray for him to recover, his road to recovery will be a long one.

As Jerry is self-employed he will need a measure of reprieve until he can get back on his feet - time to recover, to pay for basic costs of living and to cover medication.

Jerry is very prideful and would be so mad at us for doing this, but we will deal with that later ;) 

His son is not long out of post-secondary and his daughter is currently in university. As the friends of Jerry we know that these financial burdens cannot be placed on his children at this time. 

As people reach out and ask questions we have decided to launch this page, as we know in times of need that people want to help out and contribute, as well as receive updates on Jerry. We will do our best to update on his progress. 

Merry Christmas to each of you and thank you for helping Jerry or just taking a moment to think of our beloved friend during this difficult time.
