Restaurant founder Mehenni Zebentout opened the doors of Nomad Restaurant in the East Village over 14 years ago to share his love of food and culture from his native Algeria and neighboring Morocco. If you have had the chance to come to Nomad you know the qualities that make it special: the unique food, quality ingredients, the warmth of the oven and community, the decor, the live music, and dance. When you visit Nomad you truly feel at home because Mehenni has spent years and countless hours making sure this place is more than a restaurant.
We are a group of native New Yorkers, of immigrants from Poland, Colombia, Argentina, Italy, Algeria, of Americans from different cities that came to New York in pursuit of a dream. We identify with Mehenni and Nomad because he is the very definition of the American dream.
We know there are a lot of struggling restaurants and are not asking you to choose, but to help as many businesses and people as you can during these difficult times. Invest in one another, invest in your community, invest in your local economy, invest in your neighbors and friends, invest in Nomad. We can assure you that once you do, you will have a place you can call home and a new set of friends that will be forever thankful.
Here is a message from Mehenni:
“I want to keep Nomad open as a place to immerse yourself in the experience of breaking bread with your neighbors, lose yourself in the groove of live music, and wake up your taste buds to a new spice, and maybe something familiar with an unusual preparation.
I ask you for Nomad, and for the years we have been here to welcome you, to show you what my little corner of the world is like. Please keep our connection alive in this vibrant community we’ve created.”
This is how we are distributing the funds:
Most of the money collected will go to employees of Nomad to ensure they don't lose their jobs. We are also contributing a small portion to restaurant expenses until Nomad is able to reopen.
* Donations of $100 or more will get invited to Nomad’s reopening party (date of which is TBD, of course)

Somos un grupo de neoyorquinos nativos, de inmigrantes de Polonia, Colombia, Argelia, Argentina, Italia, un grupo de Estadounidenses de diferentes ciudades que vinieron a Nueva York en busca de un sueño. Nos identificamos con Mehenni y Nomad porque él es la definición misma del sueño americano.
Sabemos que en estos momentos hay muchos restaurantes con problemas y no te estamos pidiendo que elijas, sino que ayudes a tantas empresas y personas como puedas durante estos tiempos difíciles.
