Family and friends,
Last month my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. She went into the hospital after enduring almost 2 years of stomach pain. She was extremely hesitant to see a doctor about the pain, because she had previously done so and was not given the proper care. The previous doctor suggested a colonoscopy, which she did..but the pain returned. Over the last several months she complained of stomach pain, but believed that it would pass. I urged her constantly to go to the doctor, but her hesitation continued due to the fact that she was laid-off from her job in October 2019, leaving her with zero insurance.
However, the pain increased to the point that she had to give in and go to the ER. She went into the ER on Superbowl Sunday, where she was diagnosed, and wasn't able to leave until March 1st.
Since then she has started Chemotherapy, which she will continue every 2 weeks for 4-6 months. The treatment is undoubtedly tough but as most of you know, she is very strong.
We are thankful to finally have answers, but this has turned our world upside down. Nonetheless, we are ready to endure this fight, but we can't do it alone.
My mom has always worked hard as a single-mother, but as I mentioned before, she has no insurance or income at this time, so we are asking for help to cover her many medications, hospital bills and other essential needs.
We realize that everyone is dealing with the impact of COVID-19 and other day-to-day struggles, so whatever you can do at this time is enough and will be a great help to us.
Lastly, we are truly grateful for everyone's love, support, prayers, healing thoughts and encouraging words. These gestures have helped to make the gravity of this situation a little lighter each day.
Thank you all! We will do our best to keep everyone updated throughout this journey.
Sincerely,
Malikah Williams
