Friendly Neighborhood Healer Could Use a Little Help Healing

Post surgery update:  Surgery was forced to wait for two weeks due to snow. I am now five days post-surgery and doing/feeling better and more clear headed than a few days ago for sure. I am just so glad to have the bone finally set and to begin healing.

The surgeon placed two pins to stabilize the bone and increased my recovery time to 12 weeks. 

I am continuing in my art therapy graduate program, but still unable to work during this time. I appreciate all of your support as I heal.

As most of you know, I am a massage therapist, maybe even your favorite massage therapist. If you don’t know me through massage, you know me for my garden and my beautiful flowers, or from artwork that I make and share. These are all things I do with my hands. I live my whole life through my hands.

I’ve had a small accident and now have a pretty severely broken finger that will require surgery with pins or screws. I’ve been told by the ortho team that I won’t be able to work for at least 6-8 weeks.

Of course, I am also in graduate school earning a master's in art therapy while all this is happening.

This is a strange moment for me. I’ve been encouraged by a couple of friends to build this page and ask for help from the community of people in my life. I’ve only ever asked for donations before when running or walking to donate to another cause, a recent suicide awareness walk, and an organization that provides support to families with a loved one in hospice, so this is an especially new and vulnerable feeling - asking for help for myself.

I’m hoping to cover close to what I would earn in the next 6 to 8 weeks so that I can continue to study art therapy and counseling and to maintain and protect my grandmother’s home while my hand is healing.
