Friend of the blog, Larime, needs a helping hand

John Cole here. Some of you may know long-time friend of the blog, Larime, from his pet portraits.

In case you don’t know, Larime & Sylv have been going through a tough time from late last year to now. The great news is two-fold. Sylv is out the hospital after her surgery and recuperating back at home. And Larime wrote this kick-ass comic book – Sex on Wheels.

As a quad, Larime can't go completely on his own, and they burned through about $4k in that month paying for aid care, deliveries for every meal and necessity, and even with that, Larime didn't get the level of care he needed.

What we'd like to do is raise enough money to cover rent, utilities and prescriptions to get Larime & Sylv through March and April, until caricature work picks up in the Spring, and to pay 8 months of rent in advance so they have some stability in case things start to go wonky again.

Altogether, that comes to $15,000.

But, enough from me, let’s let Larime speak in his own words.

Larime

Some of you may remember me from pet portraits I did for John over the years – I’m disabled and draw with my mouth. Sylv, my spouse of 25 years, is also disabled.

On January 12th Sylv went into the ER with what we thought was pneumonia from COVID. They ended up being diagnosed with severe heart disease (both parents have terrible genes, so Sylv's are double-plus-bad), coded twice while having stents put in (successfully), and ended up spending almost a month in the hospital and developed a DVT that's being treated with very expensive blood thinners.

But we made it! Sylv is home and recovering, and able to help me again, reducing our need for aid care (though not entirely). I'm unable to work consistently at my usual gig drawing caricatures on the Las Vegas Strip since loading and unpacking me is more exertion than Sylv can regularly manage, and that means our income is almost nothing right now.

Once I'm able to work consistently again, we'll be okay as we're heading into Summer/Fall, which is my best time of year for my caricature work. Winters suck, Spring is okay, but Summer/Fall are great, and Sylv should be able to load and unload me consistently by then.
