Frida's Family Needs Your Help to Recover

My name is Melissa Cigarroa, and I am a Council Member for the City of Laredo. This mid-March, Frida Castillo, who was 20 and who lived in a neighborhood that I represent, was murdered by an ex-boyfriend, who used an AR-15-style rifle to kill her and assault her mother and her brother at the family home.

The killer shot over 200 times to force his way into the house, murder Frida, severely injure her family, and then cowardly tried to die by “suicide by cop”. He threatened every person in the neighborhood, shooting like a maniac, and trying to change the reality of Frida choosing to end a toxic relationship to find her own happiness.

Frida was a charming young woman who was also loved deeply by her family. She had a zest for life, making this tragedy all the more painful for those left behind. Her hopes and her dreams thrown away because a coward with a gun and the mind of a meglomaniac couldn't face rejection.

Her brother is out of the hospital but still sees doctors in San Antonio; her mother still faces a long road to recovery. Please donate to help this family find another home as theirs was torn up by rage, hate and bullets. All donations will go to the family for housing, for job loss, and for any related expenses due to their injuries.

This young woman reminds me of the innocence of youth, what it was like to love carefree, and what it was like to feel the promise of a new future - fearless and filled with hope and opportunity. I am saddened by this life cut too short.
