Hi, I’m Freyja!! ☺️
This summer I have been given the incredible opportunity to study abroad for a month in Paris with the program CIEE French Language and Culture. I have been awarded a generous scholarship that covers over 50% of the program costs.
My fundraising plans:
- I have recently started working at a Greek bakery in my area named Anthos!
- I am selling old clothing online and to consignment stores in my area with the help of my mom!
- I am organizing fundraising events like bake sales and car washes with people at my school who are also going to CIEE programs!!

How I’m preparing for France:
- I am currently in French 3 at my high school, and I am prioritizing my studies for the course as well as talking to my teacher, Mademoiselle Dewit, for advice!
- I am part of the Global Studies program at my school, which aids me in my cultural and heritage studies. It also provides me with plenty of resources to prepare for my journey.
- I am sophomore class president at my school, and I am an avid supporter of individuality, leadership, and self sufficiency at the high school level.
- I practice French with my mom frequently, as she knows the language and is an expert on French diction.
- I have been prioritizing consuming more French media by listening to French music, watching my favorite TV shows in French with English subtitles, and watching French Youtubers.
- Finally, I have a 32 day streak (and counting) on Duolingo, and I make sure to do my daily lessons.
Why I am choosing to study abroad:
- One of my dreams in life is to go into a field, such as diplomacy, where I am able to work with people around the world and create international connections. Learning a second language and becoming familiar with the culture of another place is vital to be able to do this. I also absolutely love to travel and I want to see and experience as much of the world as I possibly can!
