UPDATE 6/16: After being told surgery wasn’t an option for Freya, we got a second opinion at Mizzou and they believe she is a candidate for surgery to remove the mass. They will have to remove her eye as well, since it’s the area where the tumor is and it’s been causing her a lot of pain.
As hard as that is, this surgery will give her so much relief and more time to live her best life! We’re moving forward with the surgery which will be on 6/25 and will do everything we can to help her through this!
UPDATE 6/2: We got the biopsy results, it is a osteosarcoma. Which is extremely aggressive and she they said surgery wouldn’t be an option because of the location (they’d have to remove half of her face) and still would probably not be able to get it all. Our only option they have given us that could be beneficial is radiation. The radiation treatments will stabilize her condition and give her more time with us and help reduce any pain. We see the oncologist at mizzou on June 17th to go over further details and the specific treatment plan. Freya has been full of energy still and has been enjoying all of her walks and favorite treats!
UPDATE: 5/28 Freya was a brave girl today and got her CT scan and biopsy done. They said she did great, we have to wait about a week for the results for her biopsy and we are supposed to go over the scan tomorrow. Her doctor mentioned to us that the bone is being eaten away and it has made its way to her skull, but she would follow up more on it. Once we get these results we can move forward with a treatment! Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
Thank you!
Hi, my name is Julie, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help.
Our sweet fur baby, Freya, has been diagnosed with cancer, and we are extremely devastated. She has been by our side through life’s highs and lows, always giving us nothing but unconditional love. If you know us, then you know Freya is a huge part of our family and we’ll do anything to keep her happy and healthy.
It all started about a month ago with a lump under her eye. We took her to the vet twice, and they initially believed it was a hematoma. But the lump continued to grow and is now putting pressure on her eye, causing significant inflammation and drainage.
Wanting a second opinion, we brought her to another clinic, where they performed an ultrasound and took a cytology sample, which was sent to a pathologist. On May 20th, we received the devastating news: the lump is a malignant (cancerous) tumor. We met with a specialist on May 21st, who now recommends a CT scan along with a biopsy to determine the type and stage of cancer so we can decide the best course of treatment.
Freya has already undergone x-rays and bloodwork, but the bills are quickly adding up and we’re facing thousands of dollars in costs before treatment can even begin. I’m currently in a full-time dental hygiene program and only able to work weekends, so covering these expenses is extremely stressful.
Freya is only 6 years old and still has so much life ahead of her. She loves hiking, going to the park, swimming, cuddling, giving kisses, and going on adventures, especially for pup cups and ice cream! We’re going to do everything we can to give her more time to enjoy all of her favorite things. Despite the diagnosis, she’s still full of love and life!
We truly appreciate you taking the time to read our story. If you’re not in a position to donate, we completely understand but please consider sharing. Every bit of support means the world to us!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
