FREYA Fighting Cancer - Round 2 - Viking Strong

Donation protected

Our precious Freya is fighting cancer for the second time in her young 3-year-old life. Freya’s journey began June 2018, when she was 2 years 7 months old; she was diagnosed with Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT), a rare and fast-growing cancerous tumor of the brain and spinal cord. ATRT is very rare and is found in fewer than 10% of children with brain tumors, often in children under 3. The first tumor was the size of a small lemon, surrounding an artery in the brain making it impossible to remove the tumor completely. They removed what they could of the tumor and started chemotherapy in an attempt to kill the remaining tumor or at least shrink the tumor away from the artery for removal. The chemotherapy did shrink the tumor somewhat but not away from the artery; the next step was 30 rounds of radiation at Mayo Clinic. Needless to say that tumor is still there but was inactive for 2 months until the most recent MRI along with the second tumor. This is just a quick overview of the last 16 months, below is a link to CaringBridge, which details the journey so far.

Freya was diagnosed with a second ATRT last week and had a successful surgery on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 were they were able to completely remove the tumor! Freya is currently in PICU recovering and will hopefully move out of ICU soon. Freya’s surgeon said she looks great and he was not expecting her to be doing this well so soon. Since the cancer has moved so rapidly to a new spot the team feels the best course of action is whole brain and spinal cord radiation therapy (craniospinal radiation) starting ASAP, likely next week if all goes well. They feel that if it has spread this fast it likely will soon be present in her spine. Freya will receive another 30 rounds of radiation, which will take them into January. She will then rest for 4 weeks after the radiation to get her strength back to then start chemo. Please pray for strength and healing for Freya during radiation, as she will again be sedated for each of the 30 rounds of radiation.

We are reaching out to raise money to help make this time as easy and stress free as possible so the family can concentrate on their beloved Freya’s treatments and recovery.

Freya’s father has filed for FMLA with his employer and will be with the family at the hospital until January 7, 2020 without pay. This time will get the family through radiation but not chemo, which will take them into February. The company has been very accommodating in many ways during the illness and the family hopes it will continue.

The money will be going to help pay for medical, hospital parking per day: $16; Holistic medicines prescribed by Children’s Hospital per month not covered by insurance (CBD oils, turmeric oil, fish oil, resveratrol, melatonin, berberine, bromelain) $500; Car Insurance: $250; Mortgage: $740; Car payments: $300; Food; and many others you don’t think about like the parking.

We thank you in advance for caring and please keep the prayers coming for Freya and the family. Freya's grandmother and Jessica's mother is organizing the site, if you have any questions please contact me at [email redacted].

A few people have asked to mail support instead of online, if  you would rather do that you can send a check  payable to Freya's mom Jessica Bossuot and mail to Ronald McDonald House 818 Fulton St. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414

Freya had so much fun planting this succulent. She chose it because it had pink, her favorite color.
