Help Freya fight FIP
Donation protected
UPDATE: So happy to share that we reached our goal! Simon and I are blown away by how kind everyone has been. The pet community is full of such incredible people and we are so grateful for you all. Thank you ❤ Freya will be going to the vet on Saturday to have more bloodwork done. For those of you who may not have seen my most recent update on socials, we took her to the vet last week as her tummy was very bruised (turns out it was just from the biopsy and it's healing well now), but they did bloodwork to confirm there were no bleeding disorders and found out her red blood cell count had dropped. They were concerned about this and said she might require a blood transfusion. But we will be checking to see if this has improved at all since it's now been a little over a week giving her the FIP treatments.
UPDATE: The cost of Freya's FIP treatment has increased and it ended up being more than we originally expected unfortunately. We estimated she would be on one pill a day for 60 days once her injections are done, but found out she will need to be on 2.5 pills a day based on her current weight of 2.9 kg. Each pill is $12, so total cost per day is going to be $30 over the course of these 60 days. We have increased our goal for this reason. So far we have been seeing some great improvements with this FIP treatment and I will be posting more update videos shortly on her IG and TikTok pages. We couldn't be more grateful to each and every one of you for donating. Thank you so much for helping us cover Freya's treatments and saving her life. We appreciate you all ❤
Hi, Ashley and Simon here, Freya's mom and dad. Freya is a 2.5 year old Siberian cat who has been struggling with her health lately. She went downhill really quick on Feb 28 and we went to see the vet as soon as possible on March 1. She had an x-ray done, which showed she had a large mass in her abdomen. On March 2 she went back to the vet to get blood work done, and a thin needle aspirate to see if the cells in her abdominal mass was cancerous or not. She also got fluids injected in her to keep her hydrated. That night, Pearl from @pearlsragdolls got us in contact with a FB group called FIP Warriors who determined that Freya was showing signs of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). The group has been amazing to work with and responded immediately. We got Freya's FIP treatment the following day on Sunday morning and started with her FIP treatment immediately. At this point, we have been syringe feeding her as she hasn't been eating on her own now for 5 days. That night we noticed some behavioural changes for the better. On Monday morning we brought Freya to the vet to get a detailed ultrasound and more fluids. Monday afternoon we got the call from the vet confirming that Freya does not have cancer, but the mass in her abdomen is a cluster of inflamed lymph nodes, and there is also fluid in her abdomen. The vet came to the conclusion that Freya does have FIP and to stay on her current treatment plan. We went to the vet one more time on Tuesday to pick up medication to help her with this treatment which consists of 5mg Prednisolone daily for 14 days to start, 50-100ml SQ fluids given every 2-3 days, 0.3ml Maropitant SQ every other day, 0.25ml Vitamin B12 SQ once a week, to start on top of her current daily FIP injections. She will need to stay on her FIP injection medication for the first 30 days of treatment, and switch to oral medication for the remainder of her treatment (about 60 additional days). On top of this, she will need monthly blood tests as well as a follow up detailed ultrasound at the end of March.
FIP is coronavirus in cats, that mutates to its worse form. Most cats carry coronavirus, but less than 5% of cats are affected by FIP. We are grateful that there is a cure for FIP now and we are keeping a close eye of Freya's progress through this treatment.
All funds raised will go towards her vet bills including tests and medications, as well as her FIP treatment estimates. These costs have been overwhelming for us at this moment in time, and we really want to do whatever we can to make sure Freya recovers from this and goes on to live a healthy, happy life. Receipts attached and we will continue to update this.
