Hi, my Name is Bonnie and I am a member of Fresno Wildlife Rehabilitation Service. I work with the mammal team. We are gearing up for the 2025 season of baby opossums and squirrels and are in need of funds to build some outdoor enclosures for some of our new team members.
In 2024 we had 81 squirrels and 160 opossums come through our organization.
We are required to follow standards that will keep our animals safe from predators and safe from escape until they are ready for release. An example is wire underground to prevent digging in or out, and a second fully enclosed perimeter fence to keep predators out.
We use these enclosures for late-stage rehab to get them acclimated to an outdoor environment with climbing branches, foliage and hiding areas. With the number of animals we take in some of them have to wait longer than necessary for release due to a shortage of outdoor enclosures.
Fresno Wildlife Rehabilitation Service (FWRS) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to caring for orphaned and/or injured native wildlife in our Central Valley. The organization has two main goals: to treat, rehabilitate and return all animals to their natural habitat whenever possible and to educate the general public in becoming more aware, concerned, and understanding of our wildlife resources.
