Fresh start for Elyce and Deanna!

My name is Madelyn, and this story is about my niece Elyce.

Elyce is a single mom, a teacher, a counselor, cancer survivor and just one of the nicest and kindest people on the face of this earth. As of last night, though, she is also the survivor of a fire that destroyed the apartment she called home.

Hurricane Nicole visited Jacksonville, Florida on November 10th 2022 and it is believed that because of the flooding a transformer in the complex caught fire and that’s all it took.

As Elyce was walking her dog, Naveen, she turned around to go home – it was then that she saw flames under her building. She walked up the steps to her second-floor apartment and it was then that she saw the smoke. She rushed in- got Deanna and it was then that they realized they were finally safe. Before she knew it- her apartment was filled with clouds of smoke. The firefighters fought for hours in an attempt to control the flames but because the winds from the hurricane were feeding the fire her apartment was engulfed in flames and EVERYTHING was gone. She is currently living with one of her co-workers- her apartment will never be habitable and the Fire Department has deemed it a total loss. This fundraiser will make it possible for Elyce and Deanna to begin the process of re-building their lives.

Deanna- that beautiful little girl in the picture is my Goddaughter and Elyce’s daughter. Imagine how she must feel that her entire life was taken away from her?

As you travel from day to day going about your business you watch the news and see tragedy everywhere- you never think that one day that could be you. Well, that time came for our family when Elyce and Deanna watched their lives go up in smoke. Please join me in helping to give them the hope for a normal life again.
