Fresh, Local Holiday Food to Navajo & Zuni
Donation protected
Hello! We are MoGro Mobile Grocery, a small but mighty nonprofit making healthy food accessible to everyone. We work with local farmers, producers, and small businesses to pack and distribute healthy food.
We’re raising funds to purchase, pack, and deliver to Ramah, Alamo and Huerfano Navajo and Zuni Pueblo before the holidays. Our goal is to get enough contributions to reach 1200 bags of fresh, local food. Each bag costs $25. All donations up to our goal of $15,000 (600 bags) will be matched by our partners in the project, who are also small local non-profits.
These food bags are special. They are full of fresh produce (from a list of items requested by the communities) as well as tamales, posole, chile, empanadas, pintos, and tortillas. All of the NM goodies are being made locally by small businesses right now who are contributing on their own to the effort by offering 20% off. This is a community effort.
We have been making deliveries to Ramah and others since the summer and have gotten to know their Emergency Operations Team well. Each time we deliver we get updates on how the pandemic is affecting their communities. The need is especially important right now because stores are inaccessible, lines are long, and shelves are empty (very recent info from people we know who try to go to the store and come back with little or nothing). This means people can't supplement their non-perishables with food that is healthy, fresh, and brings them joy. This kind of food is especially important during the holidays, when spirits might otherwise be low because of the new wave of health risk, closures, and paycheck loss.
Thank you for reading and considering contributing to this effort. We will turn any amount you donate into good food on families’ tables for the holidays.
Thanks to our non-profit partners matching this campaign, and our local small business for being there when others aren’t. We are also delivering PPE donated by First Nations Community HealthSource.
