After an amazing career as a dancer, performing in everything from the movie "Dirty Dancing" to Broadway's "Swan Lake"; I had to figure out what to be when I grow up.
My first semester of Nursing School went well, finishing the semester with a GPA of 3.44. I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa and was on the Dean's List. My goals this semester is to raise my GPA to 3.75 and be on the Presidents List. I work really hard in school and work full time teaching Pilates to support this mid-life crisis. But school is expensive and I really need your help. Below is a reflection of my first day in the hospital last semester.
My first day at the hospital was exciting, nerve racking and hopeful. I got to see up close the conditions and difficult work being a nurse entails. I got to meet my first patient, who although I only gave him four milks in a five-minute exchange, felt helpful and fulfilling. I have a lot to learn. I feel stressed and scared to get it right but it is exciting. This journey I am on scares me, brings up self doubt, am I good enough, smart enough, young enough but I keep remembering what Pema Choderon said: “…nurturing the flexibility of our mind…manifests as inquisitiveness, as adaptability, as humor, as playfulness. It is our capacity to relax with not knowing, not figuring everything out, with not being at all sure about who we are – or who anyone else is either.” (Chodron, Pema, The Places That Scare Youpg. 20)
Here's where my friends, family and kind strangers can help. I need the money for tuition, books, fees and an occasional coffee and donut. This money will pay my way both through ASN and BSN.
So if 2 people contribute $15,000 or 30 people $1,000 or 3000 people $10 we can send this old hoofer on his way to being a nurse.
I want to thank everyone who even thinks donating or sending good wishes my way.
