We invite donations for FREETHINKERS MEET 2019, one of the largest rationalist / atheist / secular / humanist events in India. The two-day event is to be held in Thrissur, Kerala, on August 31 (Saturday) and Sep 1 (Sunday), 2019.
The event is being organized by the Freethinkers group based in Kerala, one of the largest and oldest social media platforms connecting rationalists / atheists in India, with over 250,000 members. Our Facebook group is here - www.facebook.com/groups/ftkerala7.
The Freethinkers group has been conducting similar events in previous years that were widely attended, and brought together the leading speakers, thinkers, and writers in India in the fields of science, medicine, social justice, and related fields. The Facebook page of the event is here - www.facebook.com/FTMEET.
This GoFundMe fund-raiser is intended primarily for our friends outside India so that they could conveniently donate using their credit card or bank account. Money raised from this effort will be transferred to the FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 bank account in Kerala, India. We request our friends based in India to directly send money to the FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 bank account, so that we could save GoFundMe's fees. However, we know that it is not easy for our friends outside India to send money to India, so this GoFundMe account has been set up to make it convenient for them to send money.
This GoFundMe account was previously used to raise funds for three other causes - (1) $8,000 raised for Kerala flood relief in 2018 - www.gofundme.com/dvz9b-kerala-flood-relief; (2) $10,000 raised for photographer Rafeeque Taliparamba in 2016 after his studio was destroyed by religious fundamentalists - www.gofundme.com/jsg4kjkk; and (3) $2,400 raised for rationalist magazine Yukthi Yugam in 2015 - www.gofundme.com/YukthiYugam. This GoFundMe account was set up by Partha Sarathy (www.facebook.com/parthasarathy1971), based in Los Angeles, who is President of the South Asian Humanists and Rationalists of America (SAHARA), and one of the executive committee members of the FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 event committee.
To ensure transparency, we will periodically publish on this site the screenshots showing the total funds raised through this GoFundMe effort, total funds deposited by GoFundMe to Partha Sarathy's US bank account (after subtracting their fees), and total funds remitted to the FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 bank account in Kerala, India. Funds received in the Kerala account of FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 will be withdrawn and managed by Thanveer Salim, Treasurer of the FREETHINKERS MEET 2019 event committee.
