Mamie & Weaver's Ultra is getting out the VOTE. We're a community gallery in West Philly, holding space for family, friends & neighbors, through art, education, architecture & design.
We're currently staging a public facing video exhibition called FREEDUMB and would like to extend this message to the masses by raising funds to secure a billboard in downtown Philadelphia. FREEDUMB is a communication designed to question the state of our democracy and inspire people to realize the power of their vote.
Inspired by the work of Hank Willis Thomas' 50 State Initiative https://forfreedoms.org/ , we're responding to the For Freedoms Challenge to use the tools of art and advertising to encourage civic engagement.
With your help and support, we believe we can make a difference in this election and in future local initiatives.
Mamie & Weaver's Ultra serves in honor of the legacy of John & Mamie Weaver, my beloved grandparents, who spent their lives serving their community and uplifting all around them. Their neighborhood dry cleaning business, "Ultra Dry Cleaners" was an example of the radical optimism existing within Belmont/West Philly during the late 1940's and still present today. They were ultra brave, ultra strong, ultra loving and ultra proud.
Please help us deliver an ultra loud and ultra relevant message to the voters of Philadelphia and around the country by funding this project.
