Freedom From Fear, Hope To Heal

Brittnie has had an incredibly rough start to 2016, starting with two brain surgeries. Below is the brave and courageous statement she made to tell her family and friends just what had happened in the months prior to her unexpected surgeries.

"A lot of people have been messaging me concerning my recent health issues. No, I didn't fall ice skating and hit my head, and no I didn't fall carrying firewood. I have recently been a victim of domestic violence and have been treated as no woman should. What really is love? Is it believing that someone will stop calling you names or hurting your feelings when they do it repeatedly? Is love allowing someone to take things out on you that you do or do not have anything to do with because they're sorry? I heard countless times that he would stop hitting, kicking, choking and pulling me across the floor. It is not easy to admit someone who "loves" you would do this. Love is blind and no matter how bad you "love" someone or have hope they will stop doing things that hurt you, they usually don't. If anyone on my friends list is being abused, or beat on & need the courage to reach out to get help, do it before two brain surgeries and being close to death happens to you."

As a longtime friend of Dawn, Brittnie's mother, I wanted to help in any way that I could. Knowing that there is so much else going on surrounding this situation, money is the last thing I want to be of concern. Her primary focus should be on her emotional and physical healing.

I wanted to create a Go Fund Me account to lessen the financial burden on Brittnie as she rebuilds her life. She will be unable to work until she heals from her last operation.  The money will be used to help pay medical expenses. Brittnie is always helping others, whether it be at her job or with her Shoes for the Shoeless project she is a part of; it's time she receives help from the ones she loves the most.

Her courage in telling her story to the world is so important; domestic violence can happen to anyone. Spreading awareness is the first step in saving someone else's life in a similar situation. Speak up if you, or someone you know is in a dangerous situation.

Love shouldn't hurt.
