Freedom for Jalen….and Proper Care

This GoFundMe is to raise awareness and money for my mentally disabled son, Jalen Marshall, who is incarcerated by Montgomery County in Maryland and placed at a state psychiatric hospital in Sykesville, MD called Springfield Hospital Center.

Jalen was a scholar student at UMBC in Maryland when he was brutally attacked, robbed, beaten, and hospitalized. After this unfortunate incident, Jalen’s health took a toll for the worst.

Since about 2018, my son has been dealing with legal charges stemming from his health condition (mental illness).

He had an attorney who appeared to have a close relationship with the state's attorney. He withdrew his appearance after years of representation and payments, leaving my son unrepresented.

His charges were supposed to be dropped, but the lawyer never filed the necessary paperwork because he was no longer getting paid nor representing my son. Jalen slipped back into the system with a minor violation. He visited his grandparents upon their request.

I’m asking for this help to retain a good lawyer to get him out of the psychiatric hospital, money to help him find suitable residence, and to be able to get him the help he needs through programs.

While at Springfield Hospital, Jalen has been mistreated by doctors. They continually gave him an excessive number of pills. Jalen is coherent enough and has said it’s been about 30 different pills that have absolutely nothing to do with his condition!

The medicine is not helping him; it just sedates him and makes things worse. He has asked them to not give him all of these different medications because of the way it makes him feel, but they administered them to him anyway, against his will.

He has also recently been attacked by someone with serious mental issues, who punched him in the face severely while staying in the psychiatric facility.

I just humbly ask all who read this to consider if you had a child going through all this, what you’d want others to do to help you and yours? This is all I ask.
