On May 24, 2023 I waited excitedly for my friend Dominique Villanueva to arrive at my home in California after her vacation in Costa Rica. We were supposed to carpool to her son’s high school graduation after her flight. My friend never arrived, she missed an important milestone in her son’s life. I later found out she is being wrongfully incarcerated in a prison in Costa Rica.

A ride that Dominique caught while in Costa Rica was stopped and searched. All riders were incarcerated and are being charged with international drug trafficking. Dominique was in the wrong place at the wrong time and if convicted she faces many years in prison for a crime she did not commit.

Communicating with Dominique in prison through international phone calls has been very difficult, so as you can imagine it has been very challenging for us friends & family to be able to help her from abroad. We understand that she is under inhumane and dangerous circumstances in prison while facing a language barrier and is eager to get out asap!

In the attempts of acquiring attorney fees for legal representation, we have had to sell all her possessions and valuables, she’s even lost her home in California and her cats rehomed. We realize we need help from community to prove her innocence through a knowledgeable attorney, so we are here asking for your donations to help bring her back home. No donation is too small. The $12,500 will all go to attorney fees and doesn’t take into account the monthly money we are putting into her books and other expenses in supporting our friend from afar.
