Free Willy's Willy

Donation protected
Willy is a tabby just shy of his 2nd birthday. He is kind, funny, charming and mischievous. Every morning, Willy follows me around the house as I get ready. But on the morning of Monday, 04/08/19, I noticed that he was missing from his usual routine of nuzzling his face on my ankles while I brush my teeth. Instead, I found Willy sitting by himself, eyes cast downward. He was limp, lethargic and refusing to eat his breakfast. When I pet him and picked him up, he yelped in pain. Following his veterinarian’s instructions, we rushed to the nearest emergency room where Willy was treated for a life-threatening urethral blockage.

Thankfully, Willy’s willy did not require surgery, and the ER doctor was able to remove the blockage via urethral catheter while Willy was under full anesthesia, saving his life. Willy stayed in the hospital with urethral and IV catheters for four days.

Urethral blockages are unfortunately common in male cats. Stress, genetic predisposition, diet, and a myriad of factors can all contribute to the formation of urinary obstructions - most commonly “crystals” in a cat’s urine. These episodes are difficult to anticipate and prevent.

Willy is my best friend. And if you’ve met him, you probably consider him a friend too. I generally don’t even like cats that much, but Willy isn’t just any cat. I have yet to see him fail to put a smile on the face of anyone he meets. He enjoys playing with springs, watching TV, and drinking from the kitchen faucet. He has an incredible Instagram account (@willythetabby). He is my favorite part of coming home every day. I consider myself lucky to know him, and I always thought that I would get to know him for many more years.

His risk of blockage recurrence is high, and Willy currently needs round the clock medical attention to monitor for re-blockage until he is deemed stable enough to stay home. All funds that you donate will go to paying for his hospital medical bill, current medications and immediate future care. He needs critical veterinary check ups in the next few days to observe if any blockage has recurred. I am heartbroken over him being in so much discomfort, and equally heartbroken to not be able to afford the care he currently needs.

I understand that there are infinite important, pressing causes to donate to. Ones that would help more than just Willy and his willy. But pets occupy such a special place in our hearts, which is why this means so much to me. Every spare moment I have, I spend thinking and worrying about Willy. Anyone who loves a pet like family would undoubtedly feel the same way. This campaign is about Willy’s willy (and my imminent credit card debt), but it’s also about the sacred, special bond between us and our furry friends. They give us so much, and we try to give them all we can in return.

The good news is that Willy is young and otherwise healthy, but the road to recovery will be long and tough for our little guy. In addition to a diet suited for urinary health and maybe some CBD to chill out, Willy’s willy needs your help. I truly mean this when I say anything helps. Every dollar you give is one more chance for Willy and his willy to live the blissful life they deserve.
