Free Leonard Peltier Totem Pole Journey
Donation protected
The House of Tears Carvers of Lummi Nation are requesting your support for the latest Totem Pole Journey. We are embarking on a journey from Washington State to Washington DC to join and support the movement to Free Leonard Peltier. The dates are shared below, as well as on our social media channels and all are invited to join us in person or via our live streams for each blessing ceremony.
Since 2002, Jewell James and House of Tears have traveled tens of thousands of miles, holding ceremonies across Turtle Island and gifting dozens of totem poles to communities to build upon, strengthen and reaffirm the growing Indigenous-led justice movements. Like many of the others, this journey will begin at Lummi Nation and travel across the country in ceremony to move the Spirit of healing, honor, protection, education and awareness.

Our goal on this journey is to peacefully inspire communities to join the intergenerational Call to Action for the release of our brother Leonard Peltier. The journey will culminate with 14-stops with a national-call-to-action gathering on his 79th birthday on September 12th in Washington DC. Our journey will conclude with a prayer vigil on September 17th outside the Coleman Federal Penitentiary where Peltier is held. Our journey is dedicated to paving a pathway for local, national and international Indigenous peoples to stand unified for a worldwide day of prayer. In ceremonies across the country, we will share the incredible story of the injustices around Peltier’s imprisonment and the growing movement working to advance a peaceful pathway of a pardon or clemency for our relative currently incarcerated at Coleman Federal Penitentiary, northwest of Orlando FL.
Funds raised from this fundraiser are critical to our teams ability to travel and host blessing ceremonies across the country. We have other needs like food and flights for some team members but we are specifically asking you for your support to fund:
1. Accommodations ($10,685)
2. Fuel ($4,800)
3. Vehicle Rentals ($6,400)
Thank you for your continued support of the House of Tears Carver. These journeys are not possible without the small kindnesses and generosity of everyday community members and those who share in the blessing ceremonies and stories along the way.
