Urgent Help Needed: Free Kandji from ICE Detention

We’re urgently raising funds to help Kandji Mouhamed, a 19-year-old student and basketball player from Senegal, who is currently being held in ICE detention after a heartbreaking and unjust turn of events. Kandji needs immediate legal support and a bond paid in order to be released.

Kandji has been living in Los Angeles for the past three years, studying and playing basketball while pursuing a better future. He is a kind, humble, and hardworking young man who has never been in trouble and has consistently shown respect, maturity, and determination in everything he does.

Earlier this year, Kandji’s student visa expired. He remained enrolled in school and actively sought help to resolve his immigration status the right way. Recently, Kandji was invited to play in a basketball tournament in Memphis — an exciting opportunity for him to showcase his talent. He boarded a Greyhound bus from Los Angeles, hopeful and focused on his goals.

Tragically, while en route, the bus was stopped and Kandji was detained by ICE agents. He is now being held in a detention center in El Paso, TX — alone, afraid, and facing an uncertain future.

Kandji does not belong there. He is not a criminal — he is a student, an athlete, and a young man trying to build a life through hard work and education. Friends, supporters, and members of the community are deeply concerned and are rallying to help him in any way possible.

We are raising $15,000 to hire an immigration attorney and pay Kandji’s bond so he can be released and begin resolving his case with proper legal support. Every minute he remains in detention is painful and unfair — but with your help, we can get him out.

Who I Am & My Relationship to Kandji:
My name is Natasha, and I’m organizing this fundraiser as a friend of Kandji and the mother of one of his close friends. The boys spent time together at St. Monica Prep, where Kandji made a strong and lasting impression on our family. I’ve come to know him as a thoughtful, respectful, and driven young man — and I’m committed to doing everything I can to support him during this unjust and frightening time.

How the Funds Will Be Spent:
All donations will be used for:
• Hiring a qualified immigration attorney to represent Kandji
• Paying his bond so he can be released from ICE custody
• Covering any urgent needs Kandji may have immediately after release (transportation, food, temporary shelter, etc.)

Transfer Plan:
Funds from this GoFundMe will be withdrawn into my personal bank account and delivered directly to the legal team managing Kandji’s case. If any funds remain after legal and bond expenses are paid, the remaining balance will go directly to Kandji to help him secure his legal status and rebuild his life here in the United States.

Please consider donating — no amount is too small. If you aren’t in a position to give, please share this fundraiser widely. Your support can help give Kandji a second chance and restore hope to a young life that deserves better.

Thank you for your compassion, your urgency, and your solidarity.
