Free Felix Maradiaga
Felix Maradiaga is a leading figure in Nicaraguan politics and a champion of democracy and rule of law in the country. His passionate advocacy for the Nicaraguan people made him an enemy of dictator Daniel Ortega, who is desperately trying to cling to power in Nicaragua's November presidential election.
In June 2021, Ortega rounded up several leading opposition figures who were preparing to run in the election. Felix Maradiaga was one of those arrested, and he has not been seen or heard from since.
His wife, Berta Valle, was forced to flee Nicaragua with their daughter and is now in the United States fighting for Felix's release. Berta is working with a legal team and is engaging in a number of activities to raise awareness about Felix's plight and to garner international support for Felix's release.
The purpose of this campaign is to help her cover her legal, travel, and other administrative expenses as she fights for the release of her husband and the other political prisoners in Nicaragua. It is likely that this process could take months, and therefore it will be essential that Berta has the resources to travel to Washington D.C. and other locations to lobby government officials and meet with the media and advocacy groups.
Every contribution makes a difference, so please give anything you can to help Berta, Felix, and the people of Nicaragua. All funds will go directly to Berta to cover her expenses.
