Free Comics for Kids

Donation protected
We are Chet Roush and Jerry Moffit, co-founders of Do Art Productions, an art group based in northern Illinois, and we have been spreading the joy and wonder of comics to kids and adults at libraries and park districts! For Free Comic Book Day we are giving away our BRAND NEW indie comic BUBBA SAMURAI to libraries in Illinois and Wisconsin. Not only is this an opportunity for us to share our art with the world, but it allows us to show these kids what is possible through hard work, creativity, and persistence.

Do Art Productions seeks to help others discover the power of creativity and passion to transform their lives. As this comic has taken shape over the last two years, we have seen the effect of art on people old and young alike–the way that creativity can build confidence, resilience, and identity. The way communities of loving, artistic people can be formed through their passion and mutual love of art.

And so, as the world rediscovers the value of real-world interaction, we have been spreading the gospel of art! In our recent comic book and art contest, we have invited kids 18 and under to submit their drawings of our characters, as well as their original creations. The results have amused us, fascinated us, and often held us spellbound with the talent and ingenuity these kids bring to the table. Contest winners will be printed in the free comic, and we hope that our efforts will encourage these talented young people to pursue their artistic aspirations even further.

We are asking for $3000 to print, package, and ship these comics to the libraries we’ve been working with. With this money, we can

  • Print 1000 copies of our free comic, BUBBA SAMURAI, which includes our original comics as well as the winners of our art and comic contest
  • Deliver these comics to libraries throughout the Midwest, to libraries big and small, so that kids far and wide can discover the beauty and wonder of comics!
  • Support local libraries as they continue to provide knowledge and inspiration to people of all ages!

Why libraries? The local library is perhaps the one public institution dedicated to knowledge for everyone. We believe that this universal, intergenerational approach to knowledge uplifts everybody–adults, who can be inspired by the endless curiosity of the young, and kids, who see around them models for lifelong learning. Parent participation in our workshops demonstrates that adults are really kids at heart, and in encouraging everyone to pursue their creativity we hope to foster a broader community of artists.

And this is ONLY THE BEGINNING! Every $3 donated is a comic in a kid's hand. We recently did a small, preliminary print of our Bubba Samurai comic and SOLD OUT! We have been approached in libraries and comic cons by parents who tell us that their children are amazing artists, and we have seen extraordinary talent demonstrated by these kids. We hope that, through our attempts to bring art and creativity to the masses, they will see that art is more than just a “hobby” or a distraction from more serious pursuits. We hope they will see that they TOO can bring their artistic visions to life. We hope you will join us in our epic quest, to bring art and creativity to the masses.
