This is Chang Yeon Jo, lovingly called "Auntie Jo", is a 71 years old mother of Korean descent, and she was abducted 2 months ago while she was at her interview for her Green Card. Auntie Jo has no criminal record and she was doing it "the right way".
When Auntie Jo was first detained at Adelanto, the guards accused her of "not complying" and tackled her, which led to her having to be hospitalized for 8 days... where she was chained to the bed by both her wrists and ankles like a violent criminal the entire time except to go to the bathroom. Again, to a woman with no criminal record who was doing it "the right way".
Since then, because of that hateful tackle, Auntie Jo has now been confined to a wheelchair and is suffering incredible amounts of pain.
And if that wasn't bad enough, between her pain and the lack of access to good food, Auntie Jo has lost well over 10 pounds, which is over 10% of her body fat and her health is rapidly declining.
Why is an innocent elderly woman who has proven herself to not only be a fall risk, but has become confined to a wheelchair because of the actualized hatred of an Adelanto guard still being detained?
Since then, not only have the legal fees piled up, but because her husband, Mr. Kim, has been prioritizing directing the little funds they had towards her legal fees, which have already surmounted over $10,000, he is now having financial issues including being able to pay his bills. As if that wasn't hard enough, his car has broken down and is now undriveable in its current condition.
Mr. Kim even told me that he, a 72 years old elderly man, had to find work in the form of going out to Arizona at the end of August to paint the exterior of buildings to try to make money. And as the ONLY person that Auntie Jo has passionately fighting for her release, she cannot afford to lose that support if Mr. Kim's health declines as well. It is dire that Mr. Kim get the financial resources to sustain this fight to get his wife released from Adelanto ICE Detention Facility.
The funds will be used to help with the quickly growing legal fees, as well as help with living expenses for Auntie Jo and her husband, Mr Kim during this time.
