Fred’s Meds
Spende geschützt
Hi, it’s Meg . I’m here trying to raise funds for life-saving medication for our kitty, Fredrick, who is being treated for Neurological Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Fredrick (Freddy, affectionately) is a rescue; he joined our home in November of 2024 and is probably about a year old.
Freddy was always very anxious, refused to be touched, and ate very little. He hid under the bed, never groomed, and had this alarmed look at all times (pictured). Knowing no better, we incorrectly chalked that up to him being overly cautious (see also: little scaredy cat) and perhaps a bit aloof, given his history (he was found under an abandoned boat in someone’s backyard). We simply thought he would warm up over time with enough treaties. Unfortunately, last month, poor Fredrick experienced several seizures which required immediate medical care. He was diagnosed with Neurological FIP, for which there are no approved medications available. The emergency vet referred us to a group called FIP Warriors, a volunteer-based organization, for help in gaining access to treatment. FIP Warriors helped us access proper treatment for Freddy, but the medication is quickly becoming prohibitively expensive, at $15 for each daily injection, expected to last 12 weeks. We are on day 24 of an 84-day treatment.
The medication, GS-441524, was immediately effective. The day after his first injection, he ate a full meal, curiously walked around the house, and napped on the couch. We have seen continued improvement over the last month: seizures have stopped entirely, he is gaining weight, playing and grooming, and accepting treats and pets. It is clear that the medication is working and we are determined to see him through his remaining treatments. $1200 will cover the cost of medication, syringes, associated shipping costs, and the cost of a final viral panel to ensure the virus is eliminated. Thank you for reading this far, if you made it, and thank you to everyone who has offered kindness and encouragement thus far. Wrangling Fredrick up for these injections every night has been taxing on Ry and me while David is on internship in Chicago, and your support really makes a difference. Bless
