Fred's Medical & Recovery Fund
Donation protected
My Father, Fred, is a retired States Attorney, who has spent his life protecting and fighting for the rights of the people. Fred has such a passion and love for law, local history, music, classic cars, and motorcycles, but most of all his family. Sadly, this past summer, our lives changed forever.
July 10, 2016 was the day of the attack. Fred and his sister were at home, just an ordinary day, when they were caught off-guard by a loud banging on the front door. As Fred went to find out what all the noise was, the door was busted in and he was viciously attacked in the doorway of his own home. Fred was beaten, cut and stabbed, and knocked out with blunt force. His sister narrowly escaped being attacked herself, and ran to call for help. The attack left Fred unconscious, wounded, with cuts and broken bones in his face, and struggling to breathe. He nearly didn't make it to the ER. I am so grateful that he did. They saved his life.
My name is Lisa, and I am Fred's daughter. I want to sincerely say thank you for taking the time to read Fred's story. Thank you kindly, for your love and support. I cannot express how heart-broken our family is by what happened, or how extremely lucky and thankful we are that he's alive. This was the most terrifying and devastating event in all of our lives. Now, my dad's road to recovery is proving to be a long and rocky one. And we are asking for your help, and the help of his friends and family, to raise funds to help Fred pay for his medical and recovery needs. We are so thankful for any and all donations. Even if you can't donate, and Fred's story has touched your heart, please share and pass this on.
Fred's Medical Details:
Fred has been hospitalized for 5 months now. Upon arrival to the ER, Fred was hanging on by a thread. He was unconscious and not breathing on his own. His face was broken, swollen, and cut in multiple places. His lungs were full of blood and other fluids. His body was in shock; his heart rate and blood pressure were highly elevated, he most likely suffered a seizure. He required drainage and a breathing tube and eventually was solely reliant on a ventilator. The wounds in his face required over 50 staples and stitches. His cheek bones are shattered, his nose jaw and eye socket was broken and he had swallowed several of his teeth. He sustained a brain injury and remained unconscious for over a week. When he finally woke up, he was highly incapacitated. Unable to speak clearly, confused and combative, unable to eat on his own or follow commands, still not fully breathing on his own, and suffering from amnesia. This went on for months until we finally saw an amazing improvement. All of the sudden, as if by miracle, he came to and his recovery began.
Now, after a continuously rough recovery, I'm happy to say Fred is breathing and eating on his own again. His breathing and feeding tubes were both successfully taken out not long ago. He is slowly being able to eat more solid food. All of his stitches and staples are out and most of the scarring has healed nicely. After being bed-ridden for so long he now needs quite a bit of physical and occupational therapy. He requires reconstructive and oral surgery to regain the structure of his face. The nerves in the left side of his face and head are damaged, and he is in terrible pain because of it. And his brain injury has left him temporarily, if not permanently, disabled. Suffering from trauma and short term memory loss, his motor functions, speech, and memory have all been hindered. Doctors cannot say, from patient to patient, how someone with a brain injury will recover, so only time will tell. So far, Fred continues to improve a little every day and we are all so thankful. We are now looking into skilled nursing care to help his physical and mental recovery. However, the amount of care and surgeries he has needed and continues to need has made his medical expenses well beyond his and his family's means, which is why we are asking for help.
How The Money Will Be Spent:
As stated above, Fred has had and will continue to have extensive amounts of medical care. He does have medical insurance, but the insurance company is treating him very unfairly. They are maintaining that they do not see a necessity for his medical treatment, and therefore will not cover the expenses. Because of their denial, Fred has not been able to move on as progressively as expected and has accumulated massive medical bills that are expected to be paid out of pocket. Even if the insurance agrees to cover, their coverage will be minimal. Fred still needs reconstructive and oral surgery, and adequate physical and occupational therapy so he can come home to be with his family. He will also need neurological treatment and therapy. Your donation will help Fred pay for any of the previously stated, current, and future medical treatments required. Your donation may also assist in seeking legal action against the insurance company in hopes of minimizing Fred's medical care costs. A portion of the funds raised will support Fred on his road to recovery by helping him pay for home and personal expenses. Any/All remaining funds afterwards will be donated back to those in need, a charity or cause(s) of Fred's choosing, to thank everyone for their support and to pay forward the sympathy, love, and kindness, you have shown him with your donation.
Again, I would like to sincerely thank you for caring to hear Fred's story. I would also like to humbly thank you for your donation and time, and for passing on his story. My dad means so much to me and our family, we are not ready to imagine a life without him. I wish I could express in words just how much your donation would mean to us. Since I can't, all I can say is thank you, a million times, thank you. Your help gives Fred, my wonderful father, his life back.
