Iakwe friends and family,
I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a request for help. My name is Cindy, youngest daughter of Freddie and Laarni Digno. Our family is currently facing a significant challenge as my father, Freddie, is battling liver cancer.
My father was referred to the St. Luke’s hospital in the Philippines by the referral team of the Ministry of Health and Human Services (MOHHS) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). Accompanied by my mother, my father departed to the Philippines at the beginning of November 2023 to run some tests. Around mid November, his doctors at St. Luke’s hospital gave him the news that he has been diagnosed with liver cancer. The next step was for the doctors of St. Luke's hospital to submit a proposal to the referral team of the RMI’s MOHHS for my father's initial treatment, which was a double chemo treatment, however it was denied. After receiving the unfortunate news, doctors of St. Luke's hospital thought of an alternate solution and admitted my father to a trial treatment program exclusively for individuals with liver cancer utilizing an advanced procedure called Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE).
As of February 6, my father has done two treatments of TACE. This treatment is really taking a toll on my father. Liver cancer is a relentless adversary that affects not only the organ itself but also the entire body. It often goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages, making treatment challenging and prognosis uncertain but we are glad to have had it detected in its early stages. From painful symptoms to the emotional toll of uncertainty, every aspect of this disease presents a formidable challenge. We never imagined that we would find ourselves in this daunting fight, but my father is determined to face it head-on with the support of his loved ones and kind-hearted individuals like you.
As my father navigates through the complexities of treatment – from taking multiple medication pills a day to potentially life-saving surgeries – I am reminded of the overwhelming financial burden that accompanies fighting a serious illness like liver cancer. Medical bills, prescription costs, and other unforeseen expenses quickly add up, placing an immense strain on both my family's finances and my father's ability to focus solely on his journey to recovery.
I am turning to you, our friends, family, and compassionate individuals, for your support. Your generous donations will not only alleviate the financial stress of medical expenses but also provide my family and I with the peace of mind and resources necessary to focus on what truly matters, my father’s fight in this battle.
Every cent counts and no donation is too small. Whether you can spare a few dollars, include us in your prayers, or share my father’s story with your network, your contribution will make a meaningful impact in my father's journey towards healing and recovery.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support during this challenging time. Together, we can overcome this obstacle and bring hope to those facing the daunting reality of cancer.
With deepest gratitude and hope,
Cindy Digno
