Fred Joyner Can Use Our Help - COVID-19
Donation protected
A friend from Terre Haute, IN, Fred Joyner needs our help and prayers! Fred has COVID-19 and is battling it as we speak. Fred was my schoolmate at Terre Haute Laboratory School (6th and 7th grade) and then at Terre Haute South (9-12) (in between he was at Sarah Scott). Fred and his brother Mike were basketball folks (we still mourn his brother, Mike, who was surely headed for the NBA but tragically died with his entire Evansville college team traveling to a game in a plane crash in 1977).
Fred lives in Richmond, TX (near Houston) with his wife.. He works full-time at Walmart in maintenance. Although they did not lose heat/power in their home except momentarily (thank God), his Walmart was not heated during the recent freezes in Texas. It was cold at work!
Last weekend Fred went home and felt sick. His chest was badly hurting and by Wednesday he went to the ER. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 and sent home to recover. He is hoping he will not end up back in the hospital - but he is feeling lousy. Walmart's sickness policy involves a 3 week delay in payment, and his medical bills (copays and deductibles) and other out of pocket costs are mounting. Fred has underlying conditions of diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis, so he is at risk and we really need everyone to pray for a speedy, full recovery.
Fred has served on the frontlines during this pandemic as an essential worker, and weathered all that Walmart and Texas have to offer. I admire Fred so much for his faith, kindness and his inspirational posts on facebook, showing love and encouragement to me and so many others. He has been a steadfast, supportive friend to so many, and he is a lovely poet.
If you are able, please pray for Fred and give what you can. It is a small way for us to show our immediate support and appreciation for him and his family in these tough times. Note: All monies will go directly to Fred for his medical and other needs (less gofundme fees). If you prefer to give to Fred directly, contact me for his information or contact him on Facebook (Frederick Joyner; don't use Fred Joyner, that was hacked). Given all that's going on, I am sure he could use more than the amount listed, but this will be a start toward helping Fred and his wife pay their bills.
