Fred Hudson-The Fighter
Fred Hudson Cummings, my great nephew, is a 11 year old Autistic young man who has contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) about a month ago. He lives with his mom, dad and sister and is presently at the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Fred Hudson is the bravest young man. Even though he has loss the feeling in his legs, arms, fingers , bowels and kidneys, he is fighting everyday to try to regain usage. Being Autistic, he doesn’t like change and he doesn’t like to eat different types of food. Being in the hospital and rehabilitation for the past month has been hard on him (especially his mom and dad) due to so many changes, but he has been relatively calm and had no meltdowns. He is a fighter. He has been able today to tolerate standing for a few moments on his feet several times throughout the day and beginning to be able to sit up without help a few minutes at a time. That’s progress. Fred Hudson is a fighter. Being Autistic it is hard to communicate and did I mention he doesn’t like his routine to change? Fred Hudson is a fighter and exhibiting tremendous patience and control of his emotions. He is fighting for his life. Fred Hudson is very smart and loves his Ipad and crossword puzzles and likes to read but he can’t hold a book or his Ipad. He is fighting for his life everyday, every time he tolerates the Physical Therapist , Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist. His mom had to take medical leave from her job at Toyota for 12 weeks without pay. Research shows most people with GBS can regain usage of limbs and fingers within 3 months. It is an uphill battle everyday for Fred Hudson and a parent has to stay with him every minute.
Having one income has been very hard on their family and I wanted to help them by offering an opportunity for family and friends to help them out by donating to GoFundMe. Please consider donating to help the Cummings family and Fred Hudson. But most of all, pray that Fred Hudson will beat GBS!
