Founded in 2018, NOS robotics 7432 is a rookie community-based team, with the objective to serve its municipal, FIRST, its members, and grow the team to new heights. This is done through hard work, determination, and highly achievable goals.
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) – is an international robotics program started in 1992 by Dean Kamen for all ages and known to be the sport for the mind. FIRST provides a platform for its 615k+ students to build valuable insight into business, team building, and career options. FIRST isn’t just about robotics. It represents every role of business from marketing to design and encourages problem solving. Therefore, FIRST is important to us and our future.
Since the beginning we have been doing everything we can to push to the edge of technical development, support our community, and learn new things, all while keeping FIRST’s vision forefront. We have been successful at building a team that excels in the work that is tackled. This includes community efforts such as FIRST advocacy/mentoring, volunteering, fundraising for meaningful causes and our team, and competitive robot design, build, and capability. We are not discouraged by setbacks and seek out new opportunity and challenges.
This is what drives NOS members and encourage the team to move up a level and build a new floor of possibility. We believe “FIRST ought to be to education what the NFL or the World Series is too little league” (Dean Kamen). We are taking our education to another level and applying what we already know to real-world problems, learning new things, building connections, and gaining life skills. This is all while we share what we do in every way we can. “FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills” (Dean Kamen).
This year we competed at two regionals, the Wisconsin Regional in Milwaukee, and the Seven Rivers Regional in La Crosse. At the Seven Rivers regional, we received the highest seeded rookie award. This award is given to the highest ranked rookie team at the end of qualification matches. We also received the Rookie All-Star award. This is awarded to “celebrate the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology”. The Rookie All-Star award qualifies us for the FIRST World Championship in Detroit at the end of April.
Many of you may know that FIRST robotics teams are only possible because of their generous and committed sponsors and partners. We are so grateful for the support we receive and are honored to represent you at Worlds.
Our competitions this year cost $6000 for the first regional as rookies and our second regional was $4000. The world championships also have a $5000 entrance fee and require additional resources. Your donations will assist us as we seek funding for our extended season.
