I'll get straight to the point. My dad and I are being evicted because we are behind on the rent for our apartment. We have been good, respectful tenants here since 2002, but we have recently fallen on hard times, financially. We tried to work things out with the landlord so we'd pay what we owe while remaining in place but he is not amenable to any of our suggestions. Instead, we have less than two weeks to vacate our home of almost 13 years. This has all happened so fast.
We and our family pets have nowhere to go. We have yet to come up with any contingency plan though we'll continue trying. We've been out of work and continuously looking but, bottom line, we currently have no income to speak of, no family to look to for help, and no assets to liquidate except for some old guitars, some golf equipment, and other stuff we're trying to sell online for a few bucks. Retirement savings have been depleted and, although dad has just had a 3rd callback/interview for a new job, it won’t begin until April and no paycheck for two weeks after that. Even though it's great news, sooner would have been better.
Our biggest concern is our cherished pets: dogs, cats, conures, and reptiles. We are emotionally invested in them, they are a part of our family, and we're concerned for their physical and mental well-being. Like many people, our pets suffer seemingly small quirks and idiosyncrasies and the last thing we want is to freak them out, give them away, or even suddenly leave them alone. Their mental welfare is priority-one for us. As adopted rescues, most of them have already been through enough negativity for one lifetime and, so far, we've been blessed to be able to provide them with love and a secure and safe home life.
Wonderful friends have stepped up to offer temporary lodging for us and/or some of our pets, but not all of us together. That would suffice for the short-term but it would be optimum if we could locate a modest new pet-friendly apartment so we could remain together while we get back on our feet, which we will in time.
Thank you for reading and sharing this, and for any and all donations made. Every little bit helps, and your assistance is greatly appreciated. There’s a way out of this, we just have to find it. <3
