Brian is the father of 2 young girls; Sophia 11 and Paige 9. He has been married for 15 years to his wife Kristina. A few months before his 47th birthday, Brian was diagnosed with upper tract urethral carcinoma. This is a form of bladder cancer and in Brian’s case, it manifested in his right kidney then traveled to his lymph nodes. Brian started chemotherapy right away in June 2019. He went through 6 treatments of MVAC chemo. During his treatments, Brian continued to work and stay involved at home as a husband and father.
Brian and Kristina’s youngest daughter Paige suffers from Dravet Syndrome which is a rare, treatment-resistant form of epilepsy. Patients with this condition require constant care due to the severity and frequency of seizures. There are many other issues associated with the syndrome: developmental delays, balance issues, sleep difficulties, chronic infections and disruptions to the autonomous nervous system which can lead to difficulty regulating body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure.
Brian had major surgery October 28th to remove his right kidney and as many lymph nodes as possible. He was in surgery over 9 hours. He still has a long journey ahead of him.
The family has faced extremely high medical costs over the last several months, and will continue to do so as treatment progresses. Any support you can offer will be used to help offset some of the medical expenses. The family is thankful for the many prayers and acts of support they have received throughout their journey.
