Fraser Wall - Crohn's Emergency Fundraiser
Donation protected
On the 31st of December 2022, Fraser was rushed into intensive care at University College London Hospital. Within hours, surgeons had to act fast and perform life-saving treatment due to perforations in his intestine which were turning septic for a second time.
From April 2021 with his first emergency open bowel treatment, through to a stoma reversal in January 2022, and once again finding himself back in ICU, Fraser has climbed a mountain. A total of 3 metres of diseased intestinal tissue has been surgically removed. The physical trauma speaks for itself, but fighting for your life on multiple occasions inevitably can lead to PTSD. A very real and terrifying experience for anyone.
As it stands, he's at the mercy of the current health crisis and is one of many awaiting much-needed treatments. Doctors performing his surgeries have deemed him a literal miracle for the amount he's endured this past year, testament to his character, the boy carries it off with an indomitable spirit.
At 13, Fraser was diagnosed with Crohn's and has spent most of his adolescence and early adulthood on multiple medications, liquid diets, infusions every 2 weeks, the list goes on. Learning to live with a host of traumas and a new body - scarred and disfigured from a constant barrage of invasive procedures, the road to physical and mental recovery is as long as its ever been.
Not one to outwardly shout to be heard, Fraser never leads with any of his hardships. A month later in hospital, he is still able to smile and ask how my day has been with genuine selflessness. An inspiring example which reminds me that some people are worth their weight in gold.
Anyone who knows Fraser will be the first to tell you that he is one of the most compassionate people you could ever meet. A sensitivity and awareness of others' needs make him the first to prioritise others before himself. I've witnessed him a few times worried more about the welfare of overworked nurses above his own pain.
This fundraiser aims to aid in what way possible to help in the coming months and year ahead. With his own wedding to look forward to alongside further trials in the coming months, there's never been a more crucial moment to promote strength and present hope in such a difficult and dark time. To call upon those who recognise Fraser's unmeasurable talents as an actor/writer/friend and keep the flame of his creativity and spirit alive. (He's told me a tale or two about his time in the ward with ideas of a play, which I for one am already desperate to see.)
Again to those who know Fraser, this would be the last thing he'd ask of anyone. But having witnessed his bravery amidst all of these challenges, this feels like a small gesture of unity and support that will hopefully show him how important he is to so many.
There's no sum too small, but also with times being hard for everyone, a share on your social media channels goes a long way.
With thanks and love.
