On December 24th, 2020, Brent and his wife Dorothy were cross-country skiing on the Meewasin Trail in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan when he had a massive heart attack with no prior symptoms. Neither of them had cell phones on them; but luckily someone was walking on the trail and Dorothy was able to call 911. In the mean time, Dorothy performed CPR. Brent was resuscitated for more than 20 minutes and coded twice once he was at the hospital. Doctors gave him less than 3% chance of survival - but he miraculously made it despite their predictions.

The journey has been long and tenuous. Brent has encountered every obstacle imaginable. In the eight months of hospital stay thus far, he has battled COVID-19, Sepsis twice, a bedsore measuring 22 cm in diameter to the depth of his tailbone, which has been the cause of many delays and complications in his recovery, and as part of his heart attack, had a stroke to his lower back.  God willing, he will be returning home at the end of October, but as level 4 care. Dorothy will be the primary care-giver, requiring her to most likely quit her job in order to be with Brent at all times.

Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom for eighteen years while homeschooling and caring for her mother for twelve of those years. Having the two youngest of their seven children in university, retirement being forced upon them five years earlier than expected, and Brent having worked in a private business all his life with no automatic pension will prove to be an ongoing struggle. Medical costs will be permanently high and many renovations to the house are necessary for Brent to live there; needless to say, the Fraser family will humbly and graciously accept any financial help.
