Hi my name is Kari and my sisters and I are raising funds to help my Dad Fran who was diagnosed with Primary Liver cancer in 2022. The year started off with Dad in two

different hospitals for over 2 months after battling Covid and then the doctors found the cancer. :(

During the first part of 2022 my parents made multiple trips to Mount Sinai in NYC (which is about 4 hours each way for my parents) the doctors initially did a Y90 treatment to help reduce the liaisons they found, this helped some but the cancer was still there….

The doctors then determined the best course of action was a full liver transplant. Dad then had to go back and forth to NYC multiple times to complete testing to see if he would be a candidate for the liver donor program.

During this time the family did everything we could to support Dad during this difficult time. There has been so many obstacles, so many hospital stays and emergency trips to NYC over the last year and so much pain for my Dad and Family!

As a family we all feel the pain and want to do whatever we can to help ease things.

During Summer 2022 I began walking 10 miles a day because of the liver disease i knew I personally had to make diet and exercise changes so that one day I wouldn’t suffer as my dad is currently. Then in fall I started pursing testing to be his LIVING liver donor. I knew the statistics waiting for a deceased liver and then dad needing to get lucky enough to be picked and be a match weren’t that great. I spent months working with a team of doctors jumping thru every obstacle they threw at me just

hoping to be a match and get approval for surgery.

As a family we all worked together coordinating appointments and schedules and emotionally supporting my Parents and each other as we learned how to cope and plan for this unknown future.

Fast forward to today we finally have approval for surgery!! Originally our surgery was scheduled for today 1/31/23 but my Dad got Covid a few weeks ago and that delayed surgery 30 days we are now tentatively scheduled for Valentine’s Day surgery 2/14/23.

This will be a major surgery for my Dad as it involves removing his entire liver and gall bladder and for me they will remove my gall bladder and 69% of my liver which will be given to my dad.

My dad is looking at a 6 month recovery time, with at least a month stay in NYC then multiple follow up appointments after to ensure the Liver is properly functioning.

Many people have asked if they can help and honestly as my Dad prepares for surgery prayers and positive thoughts would be very appreciated. For anyone who would like and is able to contribute I know my Parents would appreciate any amount donated that can be used to reduce some of the expenses upcoming.
