On July 12, Kurt Frankenberg had a stroke. The stroke was partially due to overextending himself between his different businesses and many work hours, and also due to a genetic condition that causes high cholesterol levels.
The stroke completely inhibited his speech abilities, and initially affected the right side of his body too. Thankfully, after 3 days in the ICU, Kurt was discharged from the hospital and able to return home.
The function on the right side of his body was restored and his language abilities started to return. This meant he was able to communicate, however his speech was extremely limited in speed and vocabulary. In fact, he was often unable to speak the word but he was able to spell it out.
Kurt gets better each day, but the medical bills are still rolling in; the ambulance bill alone is thousands. Kurt doesn't have traditional insurance- he has a "healthshare account" which is going to cover a large amount of the hospital bills that are now over $60,000. The medicine, follow-up care, speech therapy, and other incidental costs are not covered.
Those of us who know Kurt know he's an extremely generous person with a huge heart for helping others. Friends who visited him shortly after the stroke weren't suprised to hear that what upset Kurt the most was not his stroke, but the fact that the mounting bills would prevent him from continuing his charity work in Africa where he is funding a water well for a village (Kurt has spent time in Africa doing charity work this year).
This time, it's time for Kurt to receive some help. From all his friends, family, and the countless individuals who have been touched by Kurt- we are all grateful for your donation to our dear friend and mentor.
