Frank's Obituary in The New York Times
Frank de la Rosa's final wishes were that his ashes be kept in a Prince Albert tobacco can, and his obituary published in the New York Times. Feather Grandma has the can covered, but the obit is more difficult to come by. Please consider donating a few bucks so that we can publish a memorial commensurate to the extraordinary life he lived!
A professional jazz musician, Frank traveled the world with his double bass. At one time he was one third of the Tommy Flanagan Trio, and performed alongside Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. He enlisted in the US Army and proudly served our country from 1953-1955. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
A debt of gratitude to Judy Tarte, Jazz expert and family friend who kindly agreed to write his obituary, and to Diego Rose who threw down the first Benjamin for this fundraiser before I could even get it off the ground. At $50 per line (28 characters per line), I think we need a bare minimum of $500 for a simple obituary in the Times. I'm setting the goal for 1k, and anything extra will fund additional space, bigger photo, etc. I'd love to see his face, and his bass, take up a whole page!
Please donate by Friday, July 12th.
