Frank Stewart's Air Ambulance Expense

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Thea and I am fundraising for my friend Frank Stewart.

On March 15, 2025 Frank and his wife Jan Wynnychuk were in a horrific fatal accident in Treasure Beach, Jamaica. Tragically Jan lost her life and Frank ended up in the hospital with many life threatening injuries.

On that afternoon Jan asked to go for a ride to Great Bay before they returned the scooter. She had always loved the quiet, scenic landscape and wanted to take one final ride before they gave it back.

Frank has been riding motorcycles and driving vehicles in Jamaica for over 35 years. He was obeying all traffic laws and operating the scooter safely. As usual he checks his mirrors regularly. Moments before the crash, there was nothing behind them. Then suddenly without warning, horn, or signal they were struck violently from behind by another vehicle. The impact was massive. It felt as though the vehicle ran directly over them. Frank briefly lost consciousness. When he regained awareness, he was lying on the road in severe pain. In that moment, he could not fully comprehend what had happened or the extent of their injuries.

Frank was in the hospital in Jamaica fighting for his life.

His injuries were extensive and life-threatening.
Here’s a breakdown of what his injuries were:
  • Both arms and legs are broken
  • Multiple facial fractures
  • Swelling in the brain
  • Broken ribs, which were putting pressure on his internal organs
  • Fluid around his heart
  • Multiple open wounds
  • gangrene, which required emergency surgery
  • One leg has a broken femur, tibia, and fibula
  • Shattered knee, requiring full replacement
  • Fractured elbow

Frank was flown home an air ambulance out of Kingston. Commercial flights were not an option in his condition. He was flown to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, where a care team was ready to receive him.

The cost of this medical flight alone was $100,000 CAD.

Franks body has been through immense trauma. While in Jamaica he underwent emergency surgery to remove gangrene in his arm. His brain appeared stable, and the fluid around his heart is continued to improve. A full set of CT scans and MRIs had to get completed to get officially cleared for emergency air ambulance transport out of Jamaica.

When Frank got to RIH he was in critical condition and started the next phase of treatment with a full team of physicians at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, who were already briefed on his case and prepared to support his recovery.

Frank is finally out of the hospital and back at home with a number of people helping him out. As you know Frank and Jan visited annually and for some reason their travel insurance had expired, and the costs of emergency care, surgeries, and medical transport are overwhelming.

Frank now owes $101,000.00 for the Air Ambulance costs and is hoping for everyones help to raise some money. He is trying to sell his motorhome and anything else he can to raise as much money as he possible, but in today’s economy everyone is struggling.

I’m reaching out for help — to support Frank through what is a long, painful, and uncertain road to recovery. If you’re able to donate, share this page, or send love and prayers, it truly means the world to Frank, his family and the community of people Frank has in his life.

If you prefer to donate via e-transfer, please send it directly to Frank - you can message me for his email address as I am unable to post it here.
