Frank and Henry - A CSU thesis film

WHO?

Hello! My name is Adam Michalski and I am the producer of Frank and Henry, a short film being written and directed by Nathan Bauer. The film is being made as a senior thesis project for Cleveland State University.

THE STORY:

To achieve his final requirement for cub scouts, a young boy enlists his grandfather in documenting and interviewing park patrons before an unforeseen force promises to uproot their lives.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:

My name is Nathan Bauer, and I am the director of FRANK AND HENRY. Last year, I wrote and directed a little action film called QUICK BUCK that told the story of a hapless young guy trying to get his brother’s wallet back. This was an opportunity to tell a sentimental story and to establish my voice and vision as a director. Now that I’m in my senior year, I want to expand on the sentimentality I tapped into in QUICK BUCK in a seemingly hopeless setting.

Last year, my grandfather passed away, and ever since, I have tried to understand what that means for me through my work. FRANK AND HENRY tells the story of a grandfather who seeks to teach his grandson about the importance of the little things in life through the lens of making a documentary before the end of the world. This film combines the relationship components of films like Up and Hunt for the Wilderpeople with some of the bittersweetness from stories like Midnight Mass.

This film serves as a way to expand and develop my style as a writer and director and to express my love and admiration for both my grandfathers, who have led me by example for as long as I’ve been alive. We have a stellar crew of student filmmakers at the top of their game who are working diligently to bring this story to life. We thank you for your support and hope to see you at the movies.
